Bean Throwing

The boisterous and elaborate scattering of parched beans takes place at Shinto shrines and temples.

Locations: Kofukuji Temple, Suwa Shrine, Matsumori Shrine & Maruyama Tour of bean scattering events (Umezono Migawari Shrine, Tamaizumi Inari Shrine, Osaki Inari Shrine & Kusunoki Inari Shrine)

Commemoration of the Martyrdom of the 26 Saints of Japan

The Catholic archdiocese holds an annual event to commemorate the followers aged 12 to 64 years who were martyred during the period of oppression of the Christians.

Date: February 5
Location: Site of the Martyrdom of the 26 Saints of Japan

Nagasaki Lantern Festival

Period: January 1-15 (Lunar New Year)
Locations: Minato Park, Shinchi Chinatown, Hamaichi Arcade, Kankodori, Kofukuji Temple, Sofukuji Temple and other areas
Note: The last part of the festival is held at Sofukuji Temple (January 15, Lunar New Year)
